Did you know that Lower Austria is the largest region to produce vintage wines in Austria? It’s the place where wine lovers will find everything that their hearts desire. Eight wine-growing regions produce Grüner Veltliner, internationally famous Riesling and the choicest of red wines. Fine wines that need to be tasted.

• To get in the mood, we’re off to Krems on the Danube to experience the ‘Wein.Sinn’ (‘Wine.Sense’) in Sandgrube 13 run by the Krems winegrowers, one of Austria's best-known wine addresses.The ‘Winzer Krems’ are around 800 winegrowers from Krems and the surrounding wine-growing villages. Discover more about the wine: its origins, its history, its culture – and particularly its taste! The eight stations of the tour: Wein.Garten (Wine.Garden), Wein.Region (Wine.Region), Wein.Schatz (Wine.Treasure), Wein.Keller (Wine.Cellar), Wein.Film (Wine.Film), Wein.Galerie (Wine.Gallery), Wein.Kosmos (Wine.Cosmos), Wein.Kauf (Wine.Purchase).

• Nussdorf ob der Traisen: hike in the company of a Traisentaler wine guide through the Ahrenberger and Eichberger Kellergasse (wine cellars lane), one of the longest in Austria, which takes in the ‘Korkenzieher’ (‘Corkscrew’) watchtower, the educational wine trail, old wine cellars, the ‘Nützlingshotel’ (‘Insect Hotel’), a variety of local wine taverns as well as the beautiful vineyards.
