Immerse yourself in the culture of St. Pölten and become a true St. Pölten local for a day!
St. Pölten is not only the capital of Lower Austria, but also a town brimming with charm, history and local character. To give visitors and new residents the chance to feel like true St. Pölten locals, Austria Guides in St. Pölten are now offering a special course: the ‘St. Pölten Basics Course’. This unique event combines a classic walking tour with interactive experiences, giving participants the chance to immerse themselves deeply in the local culture.
What can you expect from the ‘St. Pölten Basics’ course?
The course is divided into four exciting themes, each highlighting different aspects of life in St. Pölten. Every session ends with a tasting of typical St. Pölten specialities, offering the perfect blend of education and enjoyment.
All dates:
- 24 April: As Criminal as the People of St. Pölten: We ask ourselves: just how wicked are the people of St. Pölten really? Which legendary criminal figures feature in the city’s history – and where do they end up in the present day? A journey through St. Pölten’s criminal history and the present day. At the end, a last meal awaits!
- 26 June: Dying like the people of St. Pölten: Everyone has to die – even die-hard St. Pölteners. But what happens to the people of St. Pölten when they die? We’ll be searching for clues! A funeral feast is guaranteed!
- 4 September: Drama, St. Pölten-style: there’s always something to get worked up about. Even for spoilt St. Pölten locals: the weather, prices or the Cathedral Square. Things get dramatic at the market when tempers flare – and in the theatre: we’ll head to the city’s stages to see where the real drama unfolds. Premiere buffet included.
- 18 December. “X-mas Edition” Oh Traisenbaum!: Christmas madness on the Traisen: Join us to discover the true St. Pölten Christmas and some local Christmas traditions, and leave commercialism and consumerism behind! Hmm… Or perhaps not quite: in any case, punch and biscuits are included!
All events start at 5.00 pm and the meeting point is in front of the town hall.
Final quiz and certificate
The final event of the year features a special highlight: an evening quiz where you can test your newly acquired knowledge. The top participants will receive a certificate as a certified St. Pölten resident – an accolade that will make both tourists and newcomers proud.
Accompanied by the city’s experts
The tours are led by qualified Hippolytologists Ms Radovan and Mr Chahrour, who share not only historical knowledge but also plenty of personal stories and insider tips. They make every tour a special experience.
After the tour: A cosy get-together
Each introductory course ends in a cosy St. Pölten pub, where you can reflect on the day’s experiences over a glass of wine or a regional beer. This convivial gathering also offers the chance to ask further questions and chat with the other participants.
Further information and registration
Further details on the individual courses can be found on the Facebook event page. You can register for the introductory courses online, at the tourist office or in person with Andrea Radovan. You can contact her at andrearadovan@icloud.com.
