Local Heroes

We put the city's personalities on stage.

They not only represent St. Pölten's businesses - they are sometimes the reason why guests come to St. Pölten or stay longer in the city.

The city gardeners - our jewel of the city

  • 12.700 trees
  • 60.000 summer flowers

The Local Hero of the Month is made up of around 85 (in high season) city gardeners from St. Pölten. The gardeners of the Lower Austrian provincial capital plant and care for nature throughout St. Pölten, all the way to Pottenbrunn.

With loving dedication, they design the pedestrian zones, parks and flowerbeds, transforming the cityscape into a colourful and lively ambience - inviting for locals and visitors alike.

Bettina - Artistic Director FSH

We asked you, the artistic director of the Festival Theatre, Bettina Masuch.

For example, what is your favourite place in St. Pölten?

"My social life largely takes place in the Festspielhaus. I also enjoy my afternoon trips to the city's cafés. These include Café Emmi, Café Schubert and the Cinema Paradiso on Rathausplatz. When it's warm, I treat myself to an ice cream at Bachinger on Domplatz.

I'm also looking forward to future favourite places; the KinderKunstLabor and the newly renovated synagogue. I'm sure these two places will enrich the cultural life of this city."

Johanna - Winzerhof Rudolf Müllner

We asked the young winemaker from Winzerhof Rudolf Müllner...

Johanna, what is your favourite place in St. Pölten?

"St. Pölten has some great places! From beautiful walks along Lake Viehofner See to wonderful food, everything is possible."

Her personal tip: lunch at the Naturfreunde boathouse with Christiane and Martin Rabl and a cosy evening at Vinzenz Pauli with Maurice Harant and chef Werner Punz.

What do you think is a must-see in St. Pölten?

"Just a few minutes by car (also accessible by public transport) from St. Pölten is the wonderful Traisental wine region. In addition to a little wine tasting, you can enjoy seasonal and regional delicacies."

You can find out which wine taverns are currently open for you in the Traisental-Donau events calendar.

Schinki - St. Pölten Tourism

Our Schinki also represents a local hero of St. Pölten - namely the marketing team.

Strong hands are needed to ensure that the Christmas market, Kellergassenfest and other events run smoothly. He also delivers brochures to the individual hotels and restaurants, excursion destinations and many other businesses in St. Pölten and the surrounding area.

What particularly surprises him?

The development of St. Pölten, the many events and excursion destinations that the city has gained for itself. Apart from the lakes and the VAZ in the south of the city, the restaurants in St. Pölten's city centre offer a wide range of culinary delights to suit every taste.

Michi - Chameleon

Benjamin and Michi have fulfilled a dream and opened a cocktail bar together. As today's Local Hero, Michi represents the Chameleon on Herrenplatz. During a conversation, it was immediately clear why Herrenplatz: "The charm of the city is perfectly summarised here!"

What makes St. Pölten so special ...

For the St. Pölten bar owner, St. Pölten combines rural charm with a casual urban atmosphere. "There's something going on, the city is getting busier and busier! St. Pölten is totally underestimated as a cult and tourist destination. Its reputation is getting better and better thanks to various events for young and old!" says the bar owner.

You definitely have to see...

The lakes are a dream, especially in summer! Not far from the city, they are well connected as a local recreation area and are easy to reach by bus or on foot.

Michl - The Alfred

Michi has been part of the team at Das ALFRED since April and, as the motivated bar manager of the lounge bar including the Sundeck, is our current local hero.

What does he like so much about St. Pölten?

The diversity in all areas! You can be active, enjoy cycling and hiking trails in beautiful surroundings and then relax in one of the city's countless pubs.

Where is your favourite place in St. Pölten?

One of my favourite feel-good places is our Sundeck on the third floor. The roof terrace offers a place to marvel and feel good in both summer and winter. Preferably with a cocktail in hand, of course!

Claudia - Cinema Paradiso

Claudia is a long-time employee at Cinema Paradiso and clearly represents a local hero for us.

What does she like so much about St. Pölten? The flair and the variety of restaurants on Rathausplatz, Lake Ratzersdorf to relax and unwind and, of course, Cinema Paradiso.

"It's also the people who make up the city for her and surprise her time and time again."

You can find out more about St. Pölten and the Cinema Paradiso here or on the official Instagram channel.

Rita - Austria Guide

Rita Klement is an Austria Guide in St. Pölten and also counts as a local hero for us. What does she love so much about St. Pölten? The little details and the stories behind the history.

"I want to amaze my guests - and the magical old town of St. Pölten is ideal for this! Because exciting stories await us not only behind the magnificent facades of the historic buildings, but also where no one would expect them."
