Franciscan Church

Church, Historical sites

Description

Former Carmelite church with rococo façade. The Franciscan church stands at the northern end of Rathausplatz - a silent witness to Baroque architecture and monastic tradition. Originally built in 1757 as a Carmelite monastery by Johann Pauli, it was taken over by the Franciscans after the dissolution of the order under Emperor Joseph II. The simple rococo façade with its elegant figures of saints leads into a stylish church interior with magnificent altars, including works by the famous "Kremser Schmidt". A place of tranquillity, history and art right in the heart of the city.
