Landtagsschiff

Description

State parliament and government building of the Lower Austrian state government, built by architect Ernst Hoffmann . When St. Pölten became the state capital in 1986, a new chapter began for Lower Austria - also architecturally. The new government district, with the Landhaus at its center, was built on a spacious site west of the Traisen river according to plans by architect Ernst Hoffmann.

The modern administrative complex was built between 1992 and 1997 and since then has united the state parliament, the state government and numerous administrative departments under one roof. The ensemble is structured along the Landhaus Boulevard and Neue Herrengasse, two of the district's main axes, which provide clear orientation.

A particular eye-catcher is the "Landhausschiff", a building erected on pillars with the parliamentary chamber, which rises elegantly above a water basin on Landhausplatz - a symbol of transparency and new beginnings. The government district combines administrative functionality with urban aspirations and today marks the political center of Lower Austria.
