Description
Sparkasse Park in St. Pölten was designed by the renowned Viennese landscape architect Lothar Abel in the style of English landscape gardens. The basic structure has been preserved to this day. The park, which spans over 19,000 m², serves as a natural, educational, and recreational space, as well as a valuable ecological oasis in the inner city. A defining feature is the interconnection of areas left in their natural state and those maintained in a style close to nature. Visitors can relax here or learn about plants and plant combinations. Of particular note are the medicinal herb garden featuring time-tested Austrian medicinal plants and culinary herbs, as well as a demonstration garden for plants used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. These include, for example, goji berries, Chinese dates, and mulberries. The plants are grouped according to their therapeutic properties in TCM. All plants are labeled. Guided tours of the park are regularly offered by the city of St. Pölten.
