Sternwarte Michelbach

Lookout tower, Outdoor adventure, Scenic lookout

Description

With its Lower Austrian public observatory in Michelbach, the Antares association invites visitors to explore the world of stars - and offers a great range of guided tours. In addition to general and special guided tours, there are also special programs for children and schools. The Lower Austrian Observatory has a dome with a solar telescope and three observation platforms as well as an event room and is ideally equipped for larger groups. The best way to explore the observatory is via the Michelbach Observatory Trail.

Nestled in a hilly forest and meadow landscape, Michelbach lies at an altitude of around 376 m above sea level between Böheimkirchen and Hainfeld. Friendly family-run businesses invite you to take a culinary break here in the Elsbeerreich. The location of the observatory is no coincidence: it was built at 624 m above sea level in a very dark area. This makes it particularly easy to observe and explore the starry sky.

Accessibility for hikers
The extensive Michelbach Observatory Trail is perfect for hikers: the idyllic route takes around 3.5 hours through the forest and across meadows - with a stopover at the observatory. A shorter version can also be chosen.
