Details for: On a discovery journey - Cycling for Kids St. Pölten

Brief description

Along the Traisen, through the Landhaus district to the bathing lake.

Description

You can cycle around the Traisen on this section of the Traisental Cycle Route in St. Pölten. The route always runs along the small river and offers varied opportunities to get off the bike. For example, at the Viehofner Lakes, where you can change from your bike to a pedal boat or rowboat. Or you can roll over the wooden jetty to the Feldmühle Nature Trail, to frogs, butterflies, and yellow water lilies.

If you want, climb the lookout tower or stop by the "Seedose". Then continue past large playgrounds to the Landhaus district. There you can visit the Lower Austria Museum with its great aquariums and terrariums or climb the Klangturm and see the state capital from a bird's eye view. At the end of the route, the thirsty and hungry cyclists are welcomed at the "Naturfreunde Boathouse".

Route description On a discovery journey - Cycling for Kids St. Pölten

The bike route starts leisurely at the Viehofner Lakes. If you want to strengthen yourself before setting off, you can relax on the terrace of the Seedose or order a picnic basket there and then enjoy it on the shore of the lake or in the rowboat in the middle of the lake.

A detour to the "Naturlehrpfad Feldmühle" (approx. 2 km; located at the northern end of the Ratzersdorfer See; easily accessible by bike) is definitely worth it: In the untouched floodplain landscape, you can observe lots of birds and frogs from a jetty.

From the Seedose, cycling a little north along the shore, you reach a lookout tower with a wonderful view of the surrounding lakes and much further. But be careful: don't run up too quickly - otherwise you will surely feel dizzy at the top and see the world upside down through the new telescope!

However, the actual route starts heading south - always follow the signs "Traisentalweg 4" or the Traisen River, which accompanies the entire bike trip.

The path leads directly past the Landhaus district, the seat of the Lower Austria state government. There you will also find the Klangturm, whose viewing platform offers a great view of the state capital.

It’s not far now to the Naturfreunde Boathouse. Hungry? No problem - the boathouse is known for its good cuisine.

Well strengthened, it then goes back to the Viehofner Lakes. Again along the Traisen - this time downstream, so just a very, very slight downhill.
