Description
You can cycle along the Traisen on this section of the Traisental cycle route in St. Pölten. The route always runs alongside the little river and offers a variety of opportunities to get off your bike. For example, at the Viehofner lakes, where you can switch from your bike to a pedalo or rowing boat. Or you can roll over the wooden footbridge to the Feldmühle nature trail, to frogs, butterflies and yellow pond lilies.
If you want, you can climb the observation tower or stop off at the "Seedose". Continue past large playgrounds to the Landhausviertel. There you can visit the Museum Niederösterreich with its great aquariums and terrariums or climb up the Klangturm and get a bird's eye view of the state capital. At the end of the route, the "Naturfreunde Bootshaus" awaits thirsty and hungry cyclists.

Route description On a discovery journey - Cycling for Kids St. Pölten
The bike route starts leisurely at the Viehofner Lakes. If you want to strengthen yourself before setting off, you can relax on the terrace of the Seedose or order a picnic basket there and then enjoy it on the shore of the lake or in the rowboat in the middle of the lake.
A detour to the "Naturlehrpfad Feldmühle" (approx. 2 km; located at the northern end of the Ratzersdorfer See; easily accessible by bike) is definitely worth it: In the untouched floodplain landscape, you can observe lots of birds and frogs from a jetty.
From the Seedose, cycling a little north along the shore, you reach a lookout tower with a wonderful view of the surrounding lakes and much further. But be careful: don't run up too quickly - otherwise you will surely feel dizzy at the top and see the world upside down through the new telescope!
However, the actual route starts heading south - always follow the signs "Traisentalweg 4" or the Traisen River, which accompanies the entire bike trip.
The path leads directly past the Landhaus district, the seat of the Lower Austria state government. There you will also find the Klangturm, whose viewing platform offers a great view of the state capital.
It’s not far now to the Naturfreunde Boathouse. Hungry? No problem - the boathouse is known for its good cuisine.
Well strengthened, it then goes back to the Viehofner Lakes. Again along the Traisen - this time downstream, so just a very, very slight downhill.
A map with a detailed description of the excursion destinations, dining options, arrival, etc., can be downloaded at www.traisentalradweg.at. Have fun!
